When you arrive at Masai Mara and meet the colourful people, experience the incredible wildlife, the wide open savannah and the sound of a hundred thousand gnus on the move, you know in your heart that this is one of the most special places left on the planet – a place we, together with the Maasai, can help to protect.
Basecamp Masai Mara is one of about 25 camps and lodges in the Masai Mara area, is only 45 minutes by air or 5 hours by road away from Nairobi. It has developed a site in the area, which provides you with optimal chances of experiencing the classic African animals. It is particularly designed for adventurers, nature lovers, hobby naturalists and photographers. It is for those who enjoy the feeling of being within and part of the wilderness they have come to observe, but who still enjoy the luxury of a hot shower, excellent meals and a comfortable bed.
The camp has 15 spacious tents with double- or twin beds. The tents are mounted on fixed structures and covered by thatched roofs. Each tent also has a veranda with a hammock and a sitting group. All this gives the camp a private and peaceful feeling and enables each quest to get a very personal service.
Fresh-ground coffee at sunrise. Breakfast rolls straight from the oven. Three course dinners in the open, thatched-roof dining hall. A sundowner on the platform of the viewing tower while silhouettes of elephants and giraffes wander slowly into the sunset. Hot tea or a nightcap accompanying stories of the day's adventures round the evening campfire.
The exceptional game-viewing opportunities and special campsite atmosphere provide the essence of this camp's charm. When the African night closes in, the scents and sounds of the tropical darkness enfold you - the deep-throated roar of the lions, the laughter of the hyena the crackling of the campfire and the entertaining chatter of the baboons
