Nestled at the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment and on the north west boundary of Kenya's famous Masai Mara National Reserve, on a beautiful forested bend of the majestic Mara River, is one of Kenya's smallest and most charming tented lodges. Homely and intimate, the camp has only 16 en-suite twin tents.
Without a doubt one of Africa's finest wildlife sanctuaries, the Mara supports a wonderful diversity of species and is one of the best places to witness the tense and dramatic interactions between predator and prey. Resident hippos have long ruled out any possibility of a swimming pool at the camp, herds of elephant have put an end to exotic gardens but the surroundings are glorious in their natural state and plentiful indigenous shrubs and trees house many beautiful birds. Only a few kilometres downstream the annual migration of the wildebeest and attendant zebra and antelope may be in full flow as they run the gauntlet of the dangers of the Mara River.
Mara river Camp is favoured by naturalists, wildlife researchers, film crews, photographers and conservationists. Resident ornithologists are always available for informative nature and bird walks. Being of Masai origin they delight guests with fascinating talks and discussions on the Masai culture.
Mara River Camp is a tented camp with a difference. It really does blend with the landscape and its wildlife. Moreover, the meals produced from the charcoal hearth kitchens are delicious and wholesome, staff and management are exceptionally friendly and the canvas tents have all the authenticity of being in the bush whilst providing all the luxurious facilities required for a most comfortable stay. As one of the longest established lodges in the area Mara River Camp has had years to perfect the winning combination of comfort in the heart of nature.
