Etosha is Namibia's premier wildlife park. It has great concentrations of game and there are wonderful views out onto the saltpans, which dominate the centre of the park. Ongava is situated on the private thirty thousand-hectare Ongava Game Reserve and shares a common border with Etosha on its southern boundary. The lodge offers the best of both worlds; guests have the full Etosha experience but at the same time may take advantage of the great accommodation and service of a small, exclusive lodge and have the opportunity to take night drives and nature walks on the reserve, activities which are not permitted within Etosha.
Ongava Lodge has ten cottages, attractively built from rock and thatch. All comforts are considered. Stylish furniture, pretty fabrics and both bath and shower grace each cottage. The main lounge, bar and dining area is sited near the top of a hill, and the spacious veranda, dotted with colonial style cane furniture, takes advantage of the magnificent views over the waterhole and across the wide plains below. This is the perfect spot in which to indulge in the tempting afternoon tea that is served every day. Guests can enjoy a refreshing swim in the plunge pool. Usually, mornings are spent within Etosha where good concentrations of elephant, lion, leopard, black rhino and all the Namibian plains game may be found. Ongava also has white rhino on the reserve, so guests may be assured of a fascinating variety of game. Birdlife is abundant - ostrich, pygmy falcon, and all the raptors may easily be found. Some of the local "specials" are the short-toed rock thrush, Hautlaub's francolin, freckled nightjar and Meyer's parrot.
