Table Bay Hotel

The magnificent Table Bay hotel is set on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront of Cape Town, "The Gateway to Africa". Backed by the dramatic sweep of Table Mountain, the hotel has lovely panoramic views across the Atlantic Ocean with infamous Robben Island in the distance, where African political prisoners have been incarcerated for the last 300 years, and where, most recently, Nelson Mandela was held.

Now unused, you may visit the island on a boat trip from the Waterfront and this is also an ideal way of seeing the beautiful Cape fur seals and sea birds such as Albatross and Skua that are indigenous to the area. Close to the bustling Victoria Wharf, the hotel is convenient for shops, cafes and a fascinating craft market selling an eclectic mix of African and Western styles.

The Table Bay is large, spacious and airy, recalling the era of the great cruise liners. Marble floors, large windows revealing wonderful views, palms and dark woods reveal Victorian elegance and comfort combined with contemporary standards and minute attention to detail. The bedrooms are very prettily decorated, with colonial-style furniture and crisp white bed linen and the bathrooms are supremely luxurious.

The cuisine at The Table Bay is given the same attention that the Victorians gave their huge repasts, yet it is lighter and far more modern. The Conservatory Restaurant serves authentic Cape cuisine and meltingly delicious desserts, in elegant surroundings reminiscent of a Palm Court, while a jazz band plays for your entertainment. Light meals may also be taken in the Pool restaurant, where the large azure pool surrounded by mahogany decking, sun beds and umbrellas might easily tempt you to spend the rest of the day.

Alternatively, you might wish to visit the superbly equipped health club, boutique hydro spa and beauty clinic where pampering is taken to new heights. The Atlantic Bar is perfect for impeccably mixed cocktails and good conversation after a hard day lying in either sun or shade. Whether you are looking for relaxation or a stimulating city break, The Table Bay provides the ideal accommodation.
