Situated within the southern section of the Kruger National Park in the exclusive Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Sabi Sabi embraces some of the most desirable tracts of unfenced big game country in Africa. It also has the unique advantage of being the only private game reserve on the perennial Sabi River, biologically the richest waterway in South Africa. The great bio-diversity of habitat and wildlife give an excellent chance of experiencing close encounters with the "Big Five", as well as wild dog, cheetah, zebra, giraffe and other indigenous species. With over 350 bird species, Sabi Sabi is also a birdwatchers paradise.
Sabi Sabi's fully qualified game rangers and legendary Shangaan trackers are among the best in the business. Open landrover safaris are conducted by day and at night, and with the landrovers in constant radio contact, guests have the best possible opportunity of viewing Africa's big game. There is also the daily option of environmental awareness walking trails when guests may learn about Sabi Sabi's conservation and habitat management policies. Trackers relate their folklore, explain medicinal uses of the plants, and discuss their cultural heritage. Sabi Sabi also offers the Ranger Training Experience, in their tented Nkombe Camp, for guests keen to live and learn the life of a ranger. This unique environmental education adventure, for a maximum of eight guests, is an incomparable mix of bush-craft, team building and game viewing for adventurous souls.
Selati Lodge recreates the pace of life in the colonial period, with luxury and a relaxing ambience. Eight intimate suites, surrounded by indigenous trees and flowering shrubs, combine the style of colonial ranch and old railway hostelry. Creams, ochres and earth tones form the decorative palette and patterns are muted. Fabrics are natural and often textured. Luxurious travel is the theme and fascinating railway memorabilia catches the eye, and is combined with lovely antique furniture and artefacts. In the bedrooms cream bedlinen is used with mosquito nets and, after dark, paraffin lamps create a soft romantic light. Dining is catered for in two areas: an outside boma and the adjacent farmhouse kitchen, open on one side and with ochre yellow walls and the soft gleam of old copper and brass.
