Within the South Luangwa national Park lies a remote and intimate camp. The camp has only four tents overlooking the Luangwa River, and this purposely limited capacity means that camp is able to provide a highly personalised service. This was the first camp established by Robin Pope Safaris. There are also two other camps, Nkwali and Nsefu. Both are small and intimate and overlook the Luangwa river.
This is a superb area for game. Crocodiles lazily cruise the rivers, lion and leopard hunt the grassland, and herds of elephant traverse their age-old paths. A grove of mahogany trees shades four large, custom-made tents. Each tent has an attached bathroom with a flush loo and shower. The thatched dining room and bar overlook a wide bend in the river. At all three camps the wildlife determines the programme for the day. Meal times are flexible and based around the wonderfully informative game drives.
Game is always in the vicinity and guests dining on Tena Tena's superb cuisine are able to watch elephant, antelope and other species as they come to drink. From all three camps there are daily walks in the bush led by expert and knowledgeable guides. Morning game drives work up the appetite for an enormous breakfast, whereas all day drives feature beautifully catered picnics in the bush. At night, using a spotlight, the nocturnal world is explored. Whether you visit one or all of the camps, you will be sure of experiencing the best of African wildlife and wilderness.
