Location: Kicheche is located on the Aitong Plains in the northern Koiyaki Lemek region of the famous Masai Mara Reserve. The camp is hidden in a grove of wild olive and croton trees in a prime wildlife area. Game viewing starts right from the camp itself.
Access: By air - A scheduled one hour Air Kenya flight from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to the Mara Ngerende airstrip. Air Kenya fly twice a day; morning flights departing at 10h00 (10 a.m.), afternoon at 15h00 (3 p.m.). Air Kenya also operate a daily service from Nanyuki to the Ngerende airstrip departing 10h00 (10 a.m) and also from Samburu departing 0915. There is a 120 minute daily service from Mombasa departing at 0800 (exact departure time depends upon which airline) The camp is a 20-minute game drive from the airstrip.
By road : 4½ hours drive from Nairobi.
Description: The camp is a classic luxury bush camp completely unfenced. There are a maximum of 22 guests, all staying under canvas, ensuring an intimate feel.
Accommodation: 11 Spacious, fully insect-proof Selous style tents equipped with proper beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, shower and flushing toilet. There are canvas director's chairs on the veranda and hammocks slung between nearby trees to relax in. Tents can be converted to triples on request.
Vehicles: Game-viewing drives are conducted by safari customised 4WD Landcruiser vehicles with roof hatches. Sole-use of vehicle available at extra cost.
Meals and Drinks: Most meals are taken al-fresco in a clearing overlooking the plains or, in the event of bad weather, in the spacious dining tent. We have a fully stocked bar but not an extensive selection of wines.
Laundry: Included in the rate is a daily laundry service. Please note this is a bush laundry which cannot cope with delicate items of clothing.
Nyati Tent: Our large and spacious Nyati tent, with its comfortable local furnishings and informative collection of reference books, is a delightful place to relax between game drives or other activities.
Seasons: The camp is closed from 01st April to 31st May.
Power & Lighting: There is no mains power however we do supply 24 hour power for lighting through our solar invertor system. Video batteries can also be charged on this system. Solar power and gas are used to run our refrigeration units.
Children: We accept children but adults must be aware that our camp is not fenced and no additional facilities are available to occupy them outside our normal excursions.
Safety: Safety is of paramount importance and therefore askaris (night-watchmen) patrol the camp at regular intervals. Guests are advised to remain in their tent after dark, and will be escorted between their tent and the lounge/dining areas by a staff member
